The German Parliament "Hanvon made a slew of startling announcements at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year [2009], wowing the book buying public and German Parliament at the same time. In fact, Hanvon made such a great demonstration of its multilingual e-readers that the German Government has decided to buy the devices in bulk for its Members of Parliament." Source : http://www.epapercentral.com/german-parliament-makes-bulk-ereader-purchase.htm The Swiss Parliament has also launched a ePaper prototype in 2008. They make about 18 million paper copies a year while the yearly bulletin of sessions counts 15.000 pages. The prototype will run until 2011. Why ePaper at the Parliament ? A parliament is an organization that uses a lot of documents. Each time a Parliamentary Session is held, a report is sent to all members. This creates a lot of documents. For instance, the European Parliament has reports in 22 languages. Using an eReader will allow the members of the parliament to download those reports as soon as they are available and save meters of paper at the same time. |
